Rediscover a
Hobby
We all have
that one thing we used to love to do but we don’t do it anymore. It can be
anything from painting to dancing or writing. And about supplies, I’m pretty
sure you’ll find them in some forgotten corner of your house, because the
things that we love remain with us even if we forget them.
Find a new
Hobby
Continuing from
the previous tip, exploring something novel is always exciting. You can try
some unique hobbies or you can go with the common ones that you’ve never tried or that you think
are kind of boring. For example, if you don’t like cooking, pick your favorite
dish (that you love eating) and try making that. The whole point is to get a
little uncomfortable so that at the end of it you figure out that things are
not as bad as you think and experience is always a silver lining. Remember what Princess Merida
said, “How do you know you don’t like it if you won’t try it?”
Read
"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies" - Jojen(Game of Thrones)
Reading is essential because a book always adds to your knowledge, even if it
is fictional. It makes us more understanding because it gives us insight of how
people think and that things are not always as we perceive them to be. If you
have read novels or non-fiction before you can refer to Goodreads lists for
recommendations.
If you are a
completely new to reading, I have got you covered. Think about the movie or
movies you like the most. Which genre are they? Is it sci-fi or crime thriller
or romance? Find the best books in that particular category and you’re good to
go. You can check out the various lists on Goodreads. You can get them on kindle
or you can download PocketBook or any epub reader on Playstore and download books at The Ebook Realm. You can also try Audible if you’re into
audiobooks and even if you've never tried check it out. There's free trial for 30 days.
If you still
feel a little lost, I would recommend Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief (fantasy)
and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People(self-help) as your first read,
two books that changed my life. You can also start your reading journey the way most people do: with Harry Potter!
Music
This is a
no-brainer. Music always tops as a fun activity for all of us. You can always download Spotify if you want to catch the latest tunes. If you’re a
musician, you now have enough time to work on the song you always wanted to
compose. Or if you were aspiring to be a musician but never got around to it
and your guitar is gathering dust somewhere, it’s about time you brought it
out. There is a number of tutorials on YouTube or some other sites where you can
finally pick up your musical dreams. If you are a beginner or just want to hone your singing download Yousician available for iOS and Mac(oh, and it's free). And remember, where there is a will there
is a way.
Exercise
Okay who
doesn’t want to be fit? But how many of us are actually fit? We’ve always found
excuses for not working out: “I’ve got homework”, “There’s no time”, la la la…
Throw these
excuses out of the window and figure out a perfect time for you to workout, so
that you can make this habit and carry it on post-quarantine. Figure out the
type of workout you want to have based on your age and ability. A good workout
routine focuses on all three elements of exercising: flexibility, endurance and
strength. You can do it together with your family or go solo. Let’s build those
muscles!
Learn something
new
It can be
learning a new language, or a new skill. You can learn programming or data
analysis or any other new subject. eDX offers various courses. The Odin Project and freecodecamp also offers computer
related courses.
Tidy up
This is one
activity that gives us ample opportunity to procrastinate. Although, tidying up
should be given some time in our regular lives, for all lazy people (including
me), its time we start doing through out overflowing closets or clearing
shelves. You can go Marie Kondo in here and clear up for once in your lifetime
because the method is deliberate and thought provoking and cannot be hurried
through. It requires time, and ow we seem to have plenty if it. So, put on your
tidying caps and get started.
Analyse your
life
I know this
sounds serious and it is. No matter what age we are or where we live or what we
do, we all have been rushing about doing something or the other to the extent
that we don not know why we are doing it anymore. Take a book and a pen and
write down what were your dreams and where you’ve come. Are the things that you
do in line with what you want your life to be? Go within you, into what you do
and figure out what’s the most important thing to you. Talk to yourself. Note
down what you want to change about you, not your surroundings or other
people. Make your personal balanced diet plan, figure out your personal style and set SMART goals.
Pray
I’m not going
to tell you to spend 24 hours praying. But we all know the world is going
through a rough time. Humanity as a whole is suffering and utterly helpless
right now. With all our advancements we cannot even claim how many will live
through this. And it is scary.
Pray so that we
may find the courage to stay true to who we are. Pray for the children who are
orphaned, the sick and the survivors. Pray for the medics who are working day
and night, risking their own lives. And Pray for the scientists that they may
find the wisdom to find a cure. I know prayer is not modern or cool but it is
essential (unless you're an atheist,in which case,it doesn't matter).
